Parent Participation

Cloverdale is a parent cooperative. Parents are an integral part of the school. We value all our families’ involvement in their child’s early educational experiences and rely on their assistance in the overall maintenance of our program to optimally function. Please consider the cooperative aspect of Cloverdale when determining if our school is the right match for your child as well as your family. Below, we have listed the most important facets of your responsibilities in this cooperative venture.

  • Parents should expect to help out about once every 6 - 8 weeks. A parent, relative or friend comes in for the morning portion of our regular program (8:30 - 12:30)   with paid substitutes available.  He or she arrives 15 minutes early and stays about 30 minutes at the end of the morning to assist the teachers with chores. We request that siblings not join you on this very special morning that you share with your enrolled child. Exchanges for sibling childcare have always worked well among parents.
  • Parent/child of the day is a special morning for both you and your child. It provides the opportunity to spend time in the classroom, familiarize yourself with the other children, the teachers and the school environment and to be part of your child’s new and exciting school experience. Additionally, throughout the morning, you assist the teachers with the activities they provide at a level that is comfortable for you.
  • If working at school during those hours presents a hardship for your family, you may choose to opt out of parent-of-the-day responsibilities for the year, therefore not requiring parent participation in the classroom. For further information about tuition differences, please refer to General Information.
  • Parents are expected to attend the first parent meeting during which essential information is disseminated and discussed. Additional parent meetings, guest lectures and social events may be scheduled throughout the year.
  • One parent from each family should expect to provide up to 2 hours per month of work toward the maintenance of Cloverdale. Each month, jobs are listed for which each family must sign up for a slot requiring about 1-2 hours of time. Your commitment to this responsibility is crucial to our day-to-day operations and allows Cloverdale to be the extraordinarily high quality program that it is. Families may select to buy-out from their committee responsibilities on a month-by-month basis.
